Teaching

I am an affiliated faculty at Emerson College, Boston University, and MassArt. My film production, production design, and installation classes integrate hands-on production, case studies, film history, critical theory, and issues of social justice. I’ve honed my teaching skills to ignite student interest through diverse storytelling styles and resources, emphasizing non-traditional and hybrid genres. I encourage students to take creative risks, explore their voices, promote spontaneity, foster problem-solving skills, and engage in hands-on learning. Fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all is paramount to me, and I actively promote open-mindedness, address biases, and take necessary actions to ensure inclusivity.

Teaching is not just a profession for me, it is also an extension of my artistic practice. Witnessing students’ growth and excitement as they acquire new knowledge brings me immense joy. My path in film and media arts, and my aspiration to pursue faculty positions, have been profoundly influenced by my phenomenal mentors. Thus, I am eager to pay forward, both formally and informally.

COURSES TAUGHT

VM230: INTRODUCTION TO 16MM FILMMAKING Visual & Media Arts — Emerson College

Introduction to Film Production instructs students in the fundamentals of 16mm filmmaking. Students film on Tri-X (a black and white film stock) using a 16mm Bolex camera and edit their work using an analog Steenbeck editing table. Students explore film craft on technical, practical, and aesthetic levels, recognizing its historical role as a medium for diverse voices often not embraced by the dominant culture. Students delve into the unique aesthetics of analog film and why artists pick this medium. Students are welcome to work across narrative, experimental, and documentary.

FT-592: PRODUCTION DESIGN Film & Television — Boston University

The Production Designer, along with the Director and the Cinematographer, is an essential decision-maker in any
film. The work of Production Design is intrinsic to storytelling. Design encompasses everything in the frame
