Cine-labyrinth is a multi-channel installation that invites viewers on a transformative journey of self-discovery, exploring the complexities of identity shaped by cultural differences. By navigating a physical labyrinth enveloped in layered projections, participants encounter cascading landscapes of China and the United States, whispered poetry, and their own shifting shadows. This interplay of image, word, and sound breaks down familiar ideas, fostering a unique dialogue between imagination and inner self.
The Cine-Labyrinth utilizes a multi-layered projection system with six film projectors and two overhead projectors, creating an immersive experience within the physical labyrinth. Here, Local stones are selected and arranged in a winding pattern, which mirrors the one the audience will navigate within themselves. The three-channel sound design consists of immersive drone music, and the artist’s personal story – a journey from a small town in China to a path of self-discovery. Spoken words and poems woven into the visuals spark a thought-provoking dialogue, inspiring the audience to reflect on their search for belonging.
